Books Read Analysis

I started tracking my books read on this blog in 2008.  Five years later, I decided to do some minor analysis.

I read the following books per year:
2008 - 62 (average 5.17)
2009 - 48 (average 4.00)
2010 - 78  (average 6.50)
2011 - 57 (average 4.75)
2012 - 74 (average 6.17)

I read the following books, on average, per month:
January - 4
February - 4
March - 3.8
April - 4
May - 7.8
June - 4.6
July - 6.8
August - 7.4
September - 7.2
October - 4.8
November - 4
December - 5.4

The months in which I read the most varies from July, September, December, October, and August through the last five years.  Of course, these numbers are skewed a bit due to speed reading a few series - some of which were shorter stories.  Also, this month's book club book is a bit longer than usual so it's going to take me all of the month and then some to read it so I have logged nothing for December and may have very little next January as well.

I know people with children say they don't have time to read, but I make time - and I have no real time-consuming hobbies.  I read during lunch and after Little Miss falls asleep (which is no later than 9PM).  I read the most during the week between 9PM and midnight.  I read the least when new tv is on.  Interesting to see if there are any trends.

This coincides with my attempt to get back on track with Good Reads (goodreads.com/princessapr).  I hope to be more active than last time which shouldn't be difficult.  I have included the books I've listed on this blog, but I think it'll be nicer to be able to go somewhere with more uniform and correct links.

Books Read in December 2011

1. Head Over Heels by Jill Shalvis (NOTE: This is part of the Lucky Harbor series. The order in which to read can be found here.)
2. Cowboy Cassanova by Lorelei James (NOTE: This is part of a series. You can find more information and order in which to read here.)
3. 22 Brittania Road by Amanda Hodgkinson
4. Love, Accidentally by Sarah Pekkanen
5. Only Us by Susan Mallery (NOTE: This book is part of the Fool's Gold series. The order in which to read the series can be foundhere.)
6. Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer

Decent book month. I read 2 book club books - December's and February's and a couple of short stories. They were all ebooks this month.

Books Read in November 2011

1. Real Men Will by Victoria Dahl (NOTE: This book was the last book in the Donovan Brothers Brewery series. The order in which to read can be found here.)
2. Sweet Jiminy by Kristin Gore
3. Room by Emma Donoghue
4. Christmas in Lucky Harbor by Jill Shalvis (NOTE: This is a 2-in-1 book that contains the first two books in the Lucky Harbor series - Simply Irresistible and The Sweetest Thing. The order in which to read can be found here.)
5. Small Town Christmas by Jill Shalvis (NOTE: This book is am additional book in the Lucky Harbor series. The order in which to read can be found here.) The other authors in the anthology are Hope Ramsey and Katie Lane.
6. Holiday Hideout by Jill Shalvis, Vicki Lewis Thompson and Julie Kenner.

Decent month for books. I really enjoyed Real Men Will. Sweet Jiminy and Room were library books. I liked Room, but it was a tough book to read. The Jill Shalvis glom is, as always, fun.

1. Chasing Fire by Chasing Fire
2. Only His by Susan Mallery (NOTE: This book is part of the Fool's Gold series. The order in which to read the series can be found here.)

8. Animal Attraction by Jill Shalvis (NOTE: This book is the second book in the Animal series. The order in which to read can be found here.)

It was a really great month for reading with most of it happening in the first week of the month. I read all electronic books and continued borrowing books from the library for my nook. Very pleased with this month’s books overall.

Books Read in September 2011

1. Ice Cold by Tess Gerritsen (NOTE: This is part of a series. You can find the order in which to read here - also note that the books are nothing like the television series except that the names and occupations are the same.)
2. Only Yours by Susan Mallery (NOTE: This book is part of the Fool's Gold series. The order in which to read the series can be found here.)
3. Good Girls Don't by Victoria Dahl (NOTE: This is part of The Donovan Brothers Brewery series. You can find the order in which to read here
4. Animal Magnetism by Jill Shalvis (NOTE: This book is the first book in the Animal series. The order in which to read can be found here.)
5. Living on the Edge by Shannon K. Butcher (NOTE: This is the first book in the The Edge series. The order in which to read can be found here.)
6. New York to Dallas by J.D. Robb (NOTE: This is #33 in the In Death series. You can find the order in which to read here.)
7. Already Home by Susan Mallery

It was a really great month for reading because I was on vacation and read more than a book a day. I mostly kept it up, too (though my pace slowed considerably). I read some electronic books, some paper books and started borrowing books from the library for my nook. I also really loved every book I read last month. October has a lot to live up to and already is failing miserably though I have liked the books I've read so far, just not as much.

Books Read in August 2011

1. The Passage by Justin Cronin (NOTE: This is the first book in a trilogy. It does end on a cliffhanger. The second book, The Twelve, is due in 2012.)
2. The Many Sins of Lord Cameron by Jennifer Ashley
3. Only Mine by Susan Mallery (NOTE: This is part of a series. You can find more information on the Fool’s Gold series and order in which to read here.)

Moderate month. Just wait for September though! I got sucked into The Passage after getting past the first couple of hundred pages (it’s a long one). I loved The Many Sins of Lord Cameron and it made me want to reread the series. The last was a cute intro to the next arc of Fool’s Gold books.

Books Read in July 2011

1. Chasin' Eight by Lorelei James (NOTE: This is part of a series. You can find more information and order in which to read here.)
2. House of Daughters by Sarah-Kate Lynch
3. Cowgirls Don't Cry by Lorelei James (NOTE: This is part of a series. You can find more information and order in which to read here.)
4. The Lover's Dictionary by David Leviathan
5. Corralled by Lorelei James (NOTE: This is part of a series. You can find more information and order in which to read here.)

Not a bad month for reading. Some of the books I had on my list forever. Two of the books were for book club. (So, I'm all set for book club in SEPTEMBER - weird, right?!)

Books Read in June 2011

1. The Pirate Hunter by Jennifer Ashley (NOTE: This is part of a series. You can find more information and order in which to read here.)
2. The Care and Feeding of Pirates by Jennifer Ashley (NOTE: This is part of a series. You can find more information and order in which to read here.)
3. The Chase by Erin McCarthy (NOTE: This is past of the Fast Track series. You can find more information and the order in which to read here.)
4. Dreaming by Jill Barnett (NOTE: This book is the companion book to Bewitching which gives you background information on the secondary characters in this book.)

Good month for reading. Dreaming was a straight reread. I rarely do complete rereads, but it was nice to visit a sweet, classic romance novel.

Books Read in May 2011

1. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot
2. Lover Mine by J.R. Ward (NOTE: This is part of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. You can find more information and order in which to read here.)
3. Nowhere Near Respectable by Mary Jo Putney (NOTE: This is the third book in the Lost Lords series. You can find more information and the order in which to read here.)
4. The Pirate Next Door by Jennifer Ashley (NOTE: This book is the first in her Pirate series. You can find more information and the order in which to read here.)
5. Bossypants by Tina Fey

Good month for reading after a slow start.  I'm really getting back into historical romances.  I read them from time to time, but it's nice and refreshing this month for some reason.

Books Read in April 2011

1. The Guy Next Door by Lori Foster, Susan Donovan and Victoria Dahl
2. Rock Hard by Olivia Cunning
3. Night Road by Kristin Hannah
4. Dark Horse by Kate Sherwood
5. Ryan's Return by Barbara Freethy

Good thing I read a lot last month! I've read almost nothing this month. Fun month - lots of quick reads with only Kristin Hannah to act as the heavy dramatic read.

Books Read in March 2011

1. A Lot Like Love by Julie James
2. Midnight Assignment by Victoria Dahl

I did very little reading this weekend especially when you count the second on my list is a short story that I've been reading off-and-on since last year. Still, both were very entertaining. I think this was Julie James's best book yet. I definitely hope to read more this month. I have a wonderful pile of books to read!

Books Read in February 2011

1. One Day by David Nicholls
2. Treachery in Death by J.D. Robb (NOTE: This is book #32 of the In Death series. The order can be found here.)
3. Promises by Marie Sexton (NOTE: This is part of a loose series though the author writes you can read the books out of order. You can find more information on her website.)
4. Backstage Pass by Olivia Cunning (NOTE: This is part of the Sinners on Tour series. You can find the upcoming order here.)

I was a bit distracted this month so not a ton of reading. Just wanted to note that the second to last book is male/male romance and the last is an erotica book so stay clear if you’re not into that type of thing.

Books Read in January 2011

1. Just the Way You Are by Barbara Freethy
2. Call Me Irresistible by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

I did not read a lot this month, been too scattered. Plus, the month was busy. It started with Husband in the hospital and then Little Miss had the stomach bug, and things were just busy. This month, I read a book on my Kindle app on my iPod. So, when necessary, I will link to the version of the book I read.

For Call Me Irresistible, it is indirectly part of a series, but it's not necessary to read the previous books so I did not list them. I'm a stickler for order so if I say you can read a book on its own, you can. It was a fun read. Hopefully, more reading during February, but I'm definitely off to a slow start (despite it being the first day of the month).
