The Way I Am

If you were falling, then I would catch you
You need a light, I’d find a match
‘Cause I love the way you say good morning
And you take me the way I am

If you are chilly, here take my sweater
Your head is aching, I’ll make it better
‘Cause I love the way you call me, baby
And you take me the way I am - Ingrid Ellen Michaelson

I should back up. Husband and I met in Connecticut where we both went to high school. We then went to colleges about 4 hours away from each other. After college, we both went to grad school and were only a couple hours away from each other. Needless to say, we had the long distance thing down. Husband was in grad school in D.C. which is how we ended up getting engaged in the city. Husband and I got engaged right in front of Abe at the Lincoln Memorial. It was a crisp, clear night (read as COLD). Husband got on one knee, I said yes, we had a celebratory dinner complete with champagne at Sam and Harry's. All good. My parents and Sister moved to Virginia the same year I moved here. The Inlaws moved to New Jersey once both boys were, more or less, out of the house (and later moved to Virginia so now we're all in the area which is nice). However, we still got married in Connecticut because it was still home in our hearts. You can fast forward almost two years to our rehearsal dinner. We had dinner at Cinzanos. My parents bought us water goblets with Mickey and Minnie Mouse on them and then we got crystal flutes for an engagement present. So, we used the Mickey and Minnie Mouse ones for the rehearsal dinner and the crystal ones for our wedding. Also, to complete the look, my parents got us Mickey and Minnie wedding hats. I always loved the above photo because Husband looks a little scared and overwhelmed which is so not how he was. He was super excited to get married. The rehearsal dinner was fun. Just took out the hats the other day, too.

Aw, that's a great story! I remember the wedding but I didn't know you when you had just gotten engaged. I can't believe it's been 10 years already!

When did you join the BB? I actually announced on the BB before I officially announced to my parents that I was engaged in 1997. That was more of a timing issue. We got home too late to call home but not too late to log on and gush.
